2025 թվականի աշնանը Լեռնաջուր 4 ածառապատման տարածքում 142 հեկտար նոր անտառներ տնկվեցին FORACCA ծրագրի շրջանակներում, որը համաֆինանսավորվում է Շվեյցարիայի Զարգացման և Համագործակցության Գործակալության (SDC) կողմից: Տնկվել են միայն բնիկ տեսակներ՝ ինչպիսիք են սոխենիները, կոճղենիները, տուրենիները, ճյուղենիները և գույները, որպեսզի ուժեղացվի կենսաբազմազանությունը և կլիմայական դիմադրողականությունը:Այս տարի ստեղծվել են նաև երկու հուշանտառներ։ Լեյղա Շջելդերպի հուշանտառը, որի մեջ տնկվել է 20,000 ծառ, հիշատակ է Լեյղայի՝ 2025 թվականին կյանքից հեռացած երիտասարդ կամավորի, և տնկվել է Birthright Armenia-ի քառասուն կամավորների օգնությամբ։ Եգիզ Կիրոկյանի հուշանտառը տնկվել է նրա ընտանիքի և ընկերների նվիրատվություններով՝ հիշեցնելով My Forest Armenia-ի առաջին աջակիցներից և դեսպաններից մեկին։ Յուրաքանչյուր ծառ շարունակելու է նրա ժառանգությունը՝ հույսի և կայունության նշան:Լեռնաջուր 4-ը այժմ ծառայում է որպես էկոլոգիական վերականգնման, հիշատակության և Հայաստանի ապագայի հանդեպ համատեղ նվիրվածության խորհրդանիշ:

In fall 2025, the Lernajur 4 afforestation area saw 142 hectares of new forest planted as part of the FORACCA project, co-funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). Only native species, including oak, pine, maple, birch, and shrubs, were planted to strengthen biodiversity and climate resilience.Two memorial forests were also established this year. The Leigha Schjelderup Memorial Forest, with 20,000 trees, honors Leigha, a young volunteer who passed away in 2025, and was planted with the help of forty Birthright Armenia volunteers. The Eguiz Kirokian Memorial Forest was planted thanks to donations from her family and friends, honoring one of the earliest supporters and ambassadors of My Forest Armenia. Each tree continues her legacy of hope and sustainability.Lernajur 4 now stands as a symbol of ecological restoration, remembrance, and a shared commitment to Armenia’s future.

À l’automne 2025, la zone d’afforestation Lernajur 4 a vu 142 hectares de nouvelles forêts plantés dans le cadre du projet FORACCA, cofinancé par l’Agence suisse pour le développement et la coopération (SDC). Seules des espèces indigènes, notamment chênes, pins, érables, bouleaux et arbustes, ont été plantées pour renforcer la biodiversité et la résilience climatique.Deux forêts commémoratives ont également été créées cette année. La forêt commémorative Leigha Schjelderup, composée de 20 000 arbres, rend hommage à Leigha, une jeune volontaire décédée en 2025, et a été plantée avec l’aide de quarante bénévoles de Birthright Armenia. La forêt commémorative Eguiz Kirokian a été plantée grâce aux dons de sa famille et de ses amis, en l’honneur de l’une des premières soutiens et ambassadrices de My Forest Armenia. Chaque arbre perpétue son héritage d’espoir et de durabilité.Lernajur 4 est désormais un symbole de restauration écologique, de mémoire et d’engagement partagé pour l’avenir de l’Arménie.

2020 թվականի աշնանը և 2021 թվականի գարնանը մենք Շիրակամուտի անտառացման տարածքում տնկեցինք 104,872 ծառ՝ մեր առաջին անտառվերականգնման տեղանքը։ Ամեն օր տեղի գյուղից 25 աշխատող գալիս էին տարածք՝ Լոռու մարզում հավաքված գիհիները ցանելու և մեր Դեբետի տնկարանում աճեցված տնկիները տնկելու համար։Մինչ տնկման աշխատանքների մեկնարկը, մենք ամբողջ տարածքը պարիսպապատեցինք 900 փայտե և 1,000 բետոնե սյուներով՝ երիտասարդ անտառը արածեցվող կենդանիներից պաշտպանելու համար անչափ կարևոր քայլ։2021 թվականի ամառը բերեց անակնկալ դժվարություն՝ խիստ երաշտ, երբ ջերմաստիճանը նույնիսկ 2,000 մետր բարձրության վրա հասնում էր 27°C-ի։ Տնկած ծառերը փրկելու համար մենք տեղադրեցինք երկու հզոր պոմպ, 3,000 մետր խողովակ և ութ 50 մետրանոց գուլպա՝ մոտակա օրոգելից ջուրը տարածք հասցնելու համար։ Չնայած ութ աշխատողի կողմից իրականացվող շարունակական ձեռքով ջրմանը՝ գոյատևման ցուցանիշները բավարարչափ չէին։2022 թվականի ապրիլին մենք փոխարինեցինք չորացած տնկիներին սոճիներով, որոնք ավելի երաշտադիմացկուն են և արագաճ, ապահովելով նաև ստվեր՝ նպաստելով լայնատերև տեսակների աճին։ Գիտակցելով նոր մոտեցումների անհրաժեշտությունը՝ 2023 թվականին մեկնարկեցինք երկու հեկտար փորձադաշտ՝ բարելավված տեխնիկաներ փորձարկելու նպատակով, որոնցից ամենակարևորը կաթիլային ոռոգման համակարգն էր։Նոր նպատակային ֆինանսավորման շնորհիվ մենք նախատեսում ենք 2024 թվականին այս ոռոգման համակարգը տարածել ավելի մեծ հատվածների վրա՝ երիտասարդ անտառին ապահովելով աճելու և ուժեղանալու ավելի բարձր հնարավորություն՝ չնայած կլիմայի փոփոխության մարտահրավերներին։

In Fall 2020 and Spring 2021, we planted 104,872 trees in the Shirakamut afforestation area, our very first reforestation site. Every day, 25 workers from the local village came to the field to sow acorns collected in Lori province and plant seedlings grown in our Debet nursery.Before planting could begin, we fenced the entire site with 900 wooden poles and 1,000 concrete poles, an essential step to protect the young forest from grazing animals.The summer of 2021 brought an unexpected challenge: a severe drought, with temperatures reaching 27°C even at 2,000 meters altitude. To save the seedlings, we installed two powerful pumps, 3,000 meters of tubing, and eight 50-meter hoses to bring water from a nearby canal. Despite continuous manual watering by a team of eight workers, survival rates were not satisfactory.In April 2022, we replaced the dead seedlings with pine trees, which are both more drought-resistant and fast-growing, providing shade that benefits deciduous species. Recognizing the need for new approaches, in 2023 we launched a two-hectare test plot to trial improved techniques, most importantly a drip irrigation system.Thanks to new dedicated funding, we plan to extend this irrigation system to larger areas in 2024, giving the young forest a stronger chance to thrive despite the challenges of a changing climate.

À l’automne 2020 et au printemps 2021, nous avons planté 104 872 arbres dans la zone de reboisement de Shirakamut, notre tout premier site de reforestation. Chaque jour, 25 travailleurs du village local se rendaient sur le terrain pour semer des glands collectés dans la province de Lori et planter des plants cultivés dans notre pépinière de Debet.Avant de commencer la plantation, nous avons clôturé l’ensemble du site avec 900 poteaux en bois et 1 000 poteaux en béton, une étape essentielle pour protéger la jeune forêt des animaux en pâturage.L’été 2021 a apporté un défi inattendu : une sécheresse sévère, avec des températures atteignant 27 °C même à 2 000 mètres d’altitude. Pour sauver les plants, nous avons installé deux pompes puissantes, 3 000 mètres de tuyaux et huit tuyaux de 50 mètres pour acheminer l’eau depuis un canal voisin. Malgré un arrosage manuel continu assuré par une équipe de huit personnes, les taux de survie n’ont pas été satisfaisants.En avril 2022, nous avons remplacé les plants morts par des pins, plus résistants à la sécheresse et à croissance rapide, procurant de l’ombre bénéfique aux espèces feuillues. Reconnaissant la nécessité de nouvelles approches, nous avons lancé en 2023 une parcelle test de deux hectares pour expérimenter des techniques améliorées, notamment un système d’irrigation goutte-à-goutte.Grâce à un nouveau financement dédié, nous prévoyons d’étendre ce système d’irrigation à de plus grandes surfaces en 2024, offrant ainsi à la jeune forêt de meilleures chances de prospérer malgré les défis d’un climat en évolution.

Lernajur I &amp; II cover a combined 360 hectares in one of the most favorable afforestation zones in Lori. The area benefits from rich, moist soil and a naturally humid climate, creating excellent conditions for establishing diverse, climate-resilient forest ecosystems. The main challenge in these parcels is the rapid growth of tall grasses—often reaching 1.5 to 2 meters—which can overshadow young seedlings and make maintenance, especially weeding, essential during the first few years.In the fall of 2022 and spring of 2023, we planted a total of 409,264 trees across these sites. Thanks to the high-quality soil, we were able to introduce an exceptional variety of species—13 types of native broad-leaved trees along with several shrub species. This diversity not only enhances ecological resilience but also supports long-term forest health. The plantation was carried out with strong community support, with over 240 local residents joining our team to complete the large-scale effort.Monitoring results have been highly encouraging. In 2023, survival rates exceeded 80 percent, and follow-up visits in 2024 showed remarkable growth in many sections, particularly where moisture levels remained consistently high. Seedlings in these areas experienced strong early development, while those exposed to taller grass required more intensive maintenance to ensure sufficient sunlight.Overall, Lernajur I &amp; II are emerging as some of our most successful afforestation zones. With robust survival rates, healthy early growth, and a diverse mix of native species, the area is steadily developing into a thriving young forest that will continue to strengthen over the coming decades.

Lernajur I et II couvrent une superficie totale de 360 hectares, située dans l’une des zones de reboisement les plus favorables de la région de Lori. Le site bénéficie de sols riches et humides ainsi que d’un climat naturellement favorable, créant des conditions idéales pour l’établissement d’écosystèmes forestiers résilients et diversifiés. Le principal défi dans ces parcelles est la croissance rapide des herbes hautes—atteignant souvent 1,5 à 2 mètres—qui peuvent priver les jeunes plants de lumière et rendre les travaux d’entretien, notamment le désherbage, indispensables durant les premières années.À l’automne 2022 et au printemps 2023, nous avons planté un total de 409 264 arbres dans ces zones. Grâce à la haute qualité des sols, nous avons pu introduire une diversité exceptionnelle d’espèces : 13 essences feuillues indigènes ainsi que plusieurs espèces d’arbustes. Cette diversité renforce la résilience écologique du site et assure une évolution saine du futur massif forestier. Plus de 240 habitants des communautés locales ont participé activement à cette vaste opération de plantation.Les résultats du suivi sont particulièrement encourageants. En 2023, le taux de survie a dépassé 80 %, et lors des visites de 2024, une croissance remarquable a été observée dans plusieurs sections, notamment là où l’humidité était constante. Les plants s’y développent très bien, tandis que dans les zones envahies par les hautes herbes, un entretien plus intensif a été nécessaire pour garantir un ensoleillement suffisant.Dans l’ensemble, Lernajur I et II s’imposent comme l’un de nos sites de reboisement les plus réussis. Avec des taux de survie élevés, une croissance saine et une grande diversité d’espèces indigènes, la zone évolue progressivement vers une jeune forêt vigoureuse et résiliente qui continuera de se développer au cours des prochaines décennies.

During Spring Planting 2023, we expanded our efforts to a new 116 hectare afforestation site in Urasar, Lori province.At 360 hectares in total, this land is more than three times larger than our previous sites and offers far better conditions. With elevations ranging from 1,700 to 2,000 meters, predominantly northern exposure, and excellent soil quality, the site is ideally suited for establishing a rich, diverse forest.Between Fall 2022 and Spring 2023, we planted 409,264 trees across this area, representing 13 species of broadleaf trees and several native shrubs. This massive effort was made possible thanks to the support of 240 local community members who joined our team.The results have been very promising. Our first monitoring in summer 2023 showed an impressive survival rate of over 80 percent. By 2024, many trees had already shown remarkable growth, thriving in conditions that provide an excellent foundation for a resilient new forest.

Lors de la plantation de printemps 2023, nous avons étendu nos efforts à un nouveau site de reboisement de 116 hectares à Urasar, dans la province de Lori.Avec un total de 360 hectares, cette surface est plus de trois fois plus grande que nos sites précédents et offre des conditions bien meilleures. Avec des altitudes allant de 1 700 à 2 000 mètres, une exposition majoritairement nordique et une excellente qualité de sol, le site est idéal pour établir une forêt riche et diversifiée.Entre l’automne 2022 et le printemps 2023, nous avons planté 409 264 arbres sur cette zone, représentant 13 espèces d’arbres à feuilles larges et plusieurs arbustes locaux. Cet effort massif a été rendu possible grâce au soutien de 240 membres de la communauté locale qui ont rejoint notre équipe.Les résultats ont été très prometteurs. Notre premier suivi à l’été 2023 a montré un taux de survie impressionnant de plus de 80 %. En 2024, de nombreux arbres avaient déjà montré une croissance remarquable, prospérant dans des conditions offrant une excellente base pour une nouvelle forêt résiliente.

Lernajur III covers 198 hectares and is located within one of the most favorable microclimates of the Lernajur area. The site benefits from consistently rich soils, abundant rainfall, and excellent natural moisture retention, all key factors that support the early development of healthy, resilient forests. The main challenge in this area is the exceptionally tall grass, which can reach between 1.5 and 2 meters. This rapid vegetation growth makes maintenance essential, as young seedlings risk being overshadowed without regular weeding.In the fall of 2024, we planted a total of 463,160 trees in Lernajur III, including more than 80,000 birches planted adjacent to an existing natural birch forest. This location allows the young trees to benefit from the ecological structure of the nearby natural stand, increasing the likelihood of long-term forest success. The diversity of species planted also reflects the excellent soil conditions, which can support a wide variety of native broadleaf trees.Monitoring results conducted in September 2024 have been exceptionally promising. More than 90 percent of the trees were thriving after the summer, demonstrating strong survival rates and vigorous early growth. These results confirm that Lernajur III is one of the most suitable and productive sites for afforestation, with natural conditions that actively support the formation of a stable, biodiverse young forest.Overall, Lernajur III is emerging as a model afforestation area. With its excellent soil, favorable climate, high survival rates, and strong early growth, the site is steadily developing into a robust new forest that will continue to strengthen and expand in the coming years.

Le site bénéficie de sols riches, de précipitations abondantes et d’une excellente capacité naturelle de rétention d’humidité, autant de facteurs essentiels au développement précoce d’une forêt saine et résiliente. Le principal défi dans cette zone est la croissance exceptionnelle des herbes hautes, pouvant atteindre 1,5 à 2 mètres. Cette végétation rapide rend indispensable un entretien régulier, car sans désherbage fréquent, les jeunes plants risquent d’être privés de lumière.À l’automne 2024, nous avons planté un total de 463 160 arbres à Lernajur III, dont plus de 80 000 bouleaux installés en continuité d’une forêt naturelle de bouleaux. Cette configuration permet aux jeunes arbres de bénéficier de la structure écologique du peuplement naturel voisin, augmentant ainsi les chances de réussite à long terme. La diversité des espèces plantées témoigne également de la qualité exceptionnelle des sols, capables de soutenir une grande variété de feuillus indigènes.Les résultats du suivi réalisé en septembre 2024 se sont révélés extrêmement encourageants. Plus de 90 % des arbres étaient en excellente santé, montrant des taux de survie élevés et une croissance vigoureuse malgré la chaleur estivale. Ces résultats confirment que Lernajur III est l’un de nos sites de reboisement les plus productifs, offrant des conditions naturelles favorables à la création d’une jeune forêt stable et biodiversifiée.Dans l’ensemble, Lernajur III s’impose comme un site d’afforestation exemplaire. Grâce à sa forte survie, sa croissance dynamique, la qualité de ses sols et son climat favorable, la zone évolue progressivement vers une forêt jeune, robuste et durable, appelée à se renforcer au fil des prochaines années.

In Lernajur V, we have planted 225,076 seedlings across 75 hectares of area in fall 2024. More than 90,000 closed-root birch trees grown in containers took center stage. While the new afforestation site in Lernajur V required additional logistics, including the use of 4x4 trucks to transport workers, the planting process ran smoothly. Our team adapted to the terrain, ensuring every seedling and acorn was carefully planted to maximize growth potential.

À Lernajur V, nous avons planté 225 076 plants sur 75 hectares à l’automne 2024. Plus de 90 000 bouleaux à racines fermées, cultivés en conteneurs, ont occupé une place centrale. Bien que le nouveau site d’afforestation de Lernajur V ait nécessité une logistique supplémentaire, notamment l’utilisation de camions 4x4 pour transporter les travailleurs, le processus de plantation s’est déroulé sans difficulté. Lernajur V

The Forest Restoration and Climate Change in Armenia” (FORACCA) project is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and co-funded by the four implementing organizations under the Forest Alliance of Armenia. During the first 4 years period, our activities will impact 520 hectares. We will implement four different components: starting this spring, we will start afforesting 320 ha in Lernajour 4, using our standard method, the following years, we will plant another 10 ha using drip irrigation in our Shirakamut afforestation area, which we already successfully tested on 2 ha. Finally, we will do forest transformation work on 50 ha of a degraded monoculture pine forest by planting various deciduous forest tree and shrub species. In addition, starting this spring, we will carry out important maintenance work on 140 ha of a young forest planted in Lernajour 1 &amp; 2 in 2023.
