On October 15th, My Forest Armenia had the great honour of welcoming Her Majesty Queen Mathilde of the Belgians for the official inauguration of the Belgian-Armenian Forest in Tsaghkunk, Gegharkunik region. The Queen was on a visit in Armenia as United Nations SDG Advocate.
Our whole team, as well as a four brigades of tree planters, were on the afforestation site since early morning. We were greatly helped by the weather, no clouds anywhere in the sky. After unveiling the forest sign board, Queen Mathilde planted a symbolic tree to celebrate the friendship between Belgium and Armenia.

The newly created forest of 60,000 trees spans 20 hectares and was made possible through donations from Belgian and Armenian individuals and organizations, and planted by local workers in 2025.

“It is our absolute pleasure that Her Majesty Queen Mathilde is honouring us by inaugurating this young forest, underlining the vital importance of forests,” said Andre Gumuchdjian, founder of My Forest Armenia.
“Forests are the source of life on our planet. Reforestation takes time, persistence, patience and respect for biodiversity — and we are committed to this long-term mission.”
Queen Mathilde walked to check the young trees with our team, and took the occasion to exchange with some of the tree planters. It was very inspiring to see how attentive she was for details and her comprehension of the great challenges that face reforestation.
